❌Uninstall Security Updates

To uninstall the latest security update on your Windows system, follow these steps. Please note the differences between Windows 10 and Windows 11.

​Step 1: Open Settings

  1. Open the Start Menu

    • Click the Start button or press the Windows key on your keyboard.

  2. Open Settings

    • Click the Settings gear icon, or press Windows + I to open the Settings window.

​Step 2: Navigate to Update & Security

  1. Click on Update & Security

    • In the Settings window, select Update & Security.

  2. View Update History

    • In the Update & Security section, click on View update history.

​Step 3: Uninstall Updates

  1. Open Uninstall Updates

    • In the View update history section, click on Uninstall updates at the top of the page.

  2. Select the Update to Uninstall

    • In the Installed Updates window, look for the most recent security update. These are typically labeled as Security Update for Microsoft Windows followed by a KB number (e.g., KB5006670).

  3. Uninstall the Update

    • Select the update you want to uninstall and click the Uninstall button.

You may be prompted to restart your computer to complete the uninstallation. Save any open work before proceeding.

​Step 4: Restart Your Computer

  1. Restart

    • If prompted, click Restart now. If not, manually restart your computer to ensure the changes take effect.

After uninstalling the update, Windows might attempt to reinstall it in the future. To prevent this, you can temporarily pause updates.

​Step 5: Pause Updates (Optional)

  1. Pause Updates

    • Go back to Update & Security in the Settings window.

    • Click on Windows Update.

    • Click Pause updates for 7 days or go to Advanced options for more pause options.
